בַּצּוֹרֶת

בַּצּוֹרֶתf. (b. h. בַּצֹּרֶת, בַּצָּרָה; בצר) scarcity of provision, dearth. Ab. V, 8 רעב של ב׳וכ׳ a famine in consequence of high prices, when some are hungry, others are satisfied, רעב של מהומה ושל ב׳ a famine through political disturbances and through dearth. Gen. R. s. 33 שנת ב׳ a year of dearth. Taan.III, 1 מכת ב׳, expl. ib. 19b מכה המביאה לידי ב׳ a calamity which will produce dearth (want of rain in season).
